The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie

4.0

I haven't read many Agatha Christie novels but when I was feeling the urge for a good old fashioned mystery, I knew just where to turn. The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is one of Hercule Poirot's early investigations, and thought by many critics to be Christie's best work. In this one, Poirot comes out of retirement in a small British village to help unravel a murder and clear the name of a young woman's fiance.

This was such an interesting and fun story, and if you haven't read much Christie, this is a great place to start along with Murder on the Orient Express. The characters are interesting and complex - and all seem to have a little something to hide. Leave it to Poirot to unravel the truth! And the surprise twist at the end made it all worthwhile. I would never have guessed it and neither will you.
