The Woman Upstairs by Claire Messud
4.0

I REALLY enjoyed this book simply because I related personally to the main character in a lot of ways. I found the themes of the "woman upstairs" and one's hidden self to be fascinating and relevant. I thought it interesting that the author chose a foreign family with roots in the Arab world for Nora to fall in love with. The Shahids bring a flare and sophistication to Nora's life and to the story. It wouldn't have been near as interesting if she had attached to an American family next door. I was completely satisfied with the ending!! (Endings are so important!) Definitely recommend.
