the book definitely connected with me more as i continued reading but i really felt the story of luisa and particularly connected to the story of her grandmother which was harrowing but presented in such a raw and honest way (though this may be influenced for my preference for first person narration - i will admit i found some of the switching clunky but i also appreciated it as a device to show the separation of the two worlds, both in time and in place)
Minor: Violence, Death of parent, and Homophobia
