Butterfly: From Refugee to Olympian - My Story of Rescue, Hope, and Triumph by Yusra Mardini

5.0

Whew... this was a triumphant story. This was such a gripping story of Syrian's having to flee their beloved country for safety and the opportunity to live their lives freely.
Yusra Mardini is a remarkable woman, who truly triumphed with her sister and family. I was struck by her bravery, optimism and determinism. A recurring thought that she begins to grapple with is the label refugee, and how she will always be labelled as one no matter what she does. It will always be apart of who she is. I found her story really humanizes refugees and hopefully allows those of us who have not had to flee our country to really consider refugees with the utmost respect and compassion.
