I had no idea that T. Kingfisher’s The Hollow Places was inspired by Blackwood’s The Willows. As I was reading The Willows I ended up having to stop to Google it because the setting was nearly identical to The Hollow Places - and my suspicions were confirmed. I enjoyed The Willows far more than The Hollow Places

Even having read The Hollow Places and knowing what to expect, I still found it a creepy quiet satisfying read.  It is unsettling, creepy, atmospheric, and foreboding. Blackwood did a nice job building up the tension.
