東京喰種トーキョーグール 14 [Tokyo Guru 14]
by Sui Ishida
Why would you make the two main characters die. Why would you make interesting side characters in the beginning to just be forgotten at the end and cast aside to be Kaneki's random abandoned friends who work at the cafe? Why wasn't Hide's involvement with the investigators ever fully realized or made into a plot element? Why did we need to be introduced to so many random side characters with unnecessary story arcs just so we could get half-baked ones for characters we knew from the beginning? Why can I never tell what's going on in every fight to the point that I didn't even realize Amon died? Why does this feel like they were told they were on their last volume and they were like "oh fuck" and wrapped it up randomly without tying together any real loose ends? There was so much potential here and it was wasted on introducing a shitload of random characters and not delving deep enough into their arcs to make for a muddled narrative with a shoddy, incomplete ending. I really really wanted to love this, and the art style is great, but the narrative feels so all over the place that I couldn't.
