I had really high hopes for this to be great and I think it could still be great if it were re written and had an editor that fought for this to be great.

The story from my understanding is of a woman who dreams of being a warrior but has been reduced to blacksmithing (which she has talent). She’s sent to be the emissary at another kingdom and immediately leaves. Meets the love interest and it’s not love at first sight. Things happen really fast from here and without any explanation or detail of progression. She gets there, they have a misunderstanding, then there is a festival and they’re suddenly in love. No transition whatsoever. They swap gifts and the story basically ends. There is an epilogue which is basically an intimate scene, again lacking of any context. I had to go back and reread scenes a couple of times to be sure I didn’t miss something because of the confusion with how this story is paced.

For a 7 chapter + epilogue book, the progression is probably as expected. However, this had a really good opening scene and a really good idea that just wasn’t executed well. I would say this could be a hit if the authors actually built out the story, the journey from a to b to c.
