I'd like to thank NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an ARC of Jessie Rosen's The Heirloom.

For fan's of Under the Tuscan Sun and Leap Year comes a story about love, family, tradition and a little superstition. Overall, I enjoyed this story and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fun travel escapism story with elements of romance and family drama.

The Setting:
The story takes place over a few different locations. From LA, Italy, Portugal, and Boston, Rosen does and excellent job at describing each location so you can feel yourself there, immersed in the settings, and culture. She takes the time to describe the infrastructure, foods, and landscapes beautifully.

The Characters:
Shea is a bit frenetic in her pursuit of the origins of the heirloom she receives and rightfully so as you get to understand her backstory.  I can appreciate when an author gives us insights into the characters as it helps empathize and understand their motives within the story being told. I feel like Rosen did a good job in developing Shea and though a bit vexing through this epic journey I could understand why the undertaking was important to her.

Rosen took care in also building out a great cast of supporting characters to aide in driving this story forward. I love a good story with a good group of people rallying around the protagonist. Annie, John, Graham, Rebecca were all solid supporting cast.

The Plot/Writing Style:
This story is about finding the origins of Shea's engagement ring and it leads her from Europe to Boston, back to LA. Though a bit far-fetched, to go across the world to try to find answers to the origins of an heirloom engagement ring, I took this story for what it was a bit of travel escapism mixed with some romance and sprinkles of serendipity.  That being established I found it to be a fun and enjoyable ride. The writing style was simplistic which made it easy to follow and the chapters were a great length. Some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy but all in all, I enjoyed most of it.

The Ending:
Without spoiling the ending I will say I feel satisfied and enjoyed the epilogue.

I can definitely see this being adapted into a mini-series or film and would definitely go watch it.
