I read this for a school project and had trouble putting it down. The main character, Gifty, is so engaging and realistic that I truly cared about her development and healing journey. It was a perfect novel for a project because the symbolism and metaphors in this story are spectacular. Overall a very realistic, raw, at times depressing story that sheds light on important issues and gives hope to the reader.
Graphic: Drug abuse and Racism
Moderate: Mental illness, Suicidal thoughts, and Suicide attempt
