Oblomov by Ivan Goncharov

Read more/less concurrently with [a: Turgenev|410680|Ivan Turgenev|http://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1239589274p2/410680.jpg]'s [b: Fathers and Sons|19117|Fathers and Sons|Ivan Turgenev|http://images.gr-assets.com/books/1390793535s/19117.jpg|1294426]. That said, I was expecting more of the same themes and more of the same intensity. Instead, we have readable (though not exactly enjoyable) story about a pretty pathetic bachelor. (As I recall anyway.) Symbolic of 19th century Russia's relationship with the West? PERHAPS! At least that was one discussion we had in class. Still, there's something about the way that Russians write that (even in translation) manages to keep a book floating just above the level of "completely teh suck".
