The Water Rituals
by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi
This is the second installment in the White City Trilogy. The story continues immediately after the 1st book.
I loved everything in this one-the dual timeline, the setting, the descriptions, the characters, and the ritualistic killings.
The plot had two timelines and this was a story that is close to Kraken and his cuadrilla. I enjoyed all the drama-be it the serial killer killings or personal ones. The relationships between the characters were explored in detail. Kraken's grandfather and brother were my favorite characters after Kraken. The dynamics of this family were fun and inspiring.
The descriptions of the architecture and setting let me 'armchair' travel to Vitoria. It was so well-written. The historical and mythological aspects of the places made it all the more intriguing.
Call me crazy, but I enjoyed reading about the mythological element of the killings and the explanations behind it. It was graphic and brutal!
There were a lot of red herrings and misdirections in the plot. But the way it all connected at the end was very satisfactory and shocking. I loved it!
Both the Silence of the White City and the Water Rituals are amazing. I am really excited about the next one in the series.
