4.5! A treasure piece of gothic fiction. Though it was a slow-paced read, I enjoyed it and the suspense made up for it. I grew fond of the companionship and camaraderie of the group, I find that horror is much more poignant when utilising an ensemble of characters in a fight against the antagonist, especially when that bond is heartened through pain, struggle and loss.
Moderate: Child death, Confinement, Death, Forced institutionalization, Blood, Cannibalism, Injury/Injury detail
