House of Monstrous Women by Daphne Fama

dark mysterious tense

3.75

If you like books where houses are a main character, grief haunts the narrative, and body horror abounds, then you’ll enjoy this.

Fama’s writing is evocative and sharp, creating a heavy, cloying atmosphere that’ll get its hooks into you.

I found the ending a little weak, but that doesn’t prevent this from being a solid debut.
