Nobody's Perfect
by Sally Kilpatrick
3.5 stars rounded up. Vivian Quackenbush is a homemaker who runs a small YouTube channel as a pet project. Vivian and her husband are on their way to becoming empty nesters after nearly 25 years of marriage…until he blindsides her with a serving of divorce papers. A devastated and very drunk Vivian rips her soon-to-be ex-husband a new one on camera, and post the video to her channel. Unexpectedly, the video goes viral and Vivian becomes cemented in the history of the internet as a meme and a gif. We follow Vivian as she navigates her new-found internet fame and impending divorce.
What I loved most about this book was how it explored the various relationships between Vivian and the women in her life, and seeing how her foray into becoming an influencer impacts them. I think Vivian’s love life takes a back seat compared to the rebuilding of her relationship with her mother, which I really found to be quite moving. I particularly enjoyed seeing the mother and daughter duo band together to terrorize and evict the ex-husband! Overall, I thought this was a light and enjoyable read.
