A very fun ride! Most of the men in this book are insecure bullies. The boy who died had more courage than most of them do as fully grown men. But Will was the absolute worst! I’ve never rooted so hard for someone to be offed in a contemporary read. He was a sociopath and revenge porn deviant even as a teen and absolutely still got better than he deserved. If Jules had actually confronted Will, he would’ve used the same revenge porn tactic with her. He quite literally needed to be killed. At the end, I do feel kind of bad for Johnno. But he was also guilty for protecting Will’s behavior and backing him up to his own demise. So really, you are the crappy company you choose to keep in the end. I’ll never understand why Johnno didn’t want to distance himself from Will after the thing at the school. Will was the real liability, but Johnno hated himself too much to see that. The end really shows how different Johnno and Will were and it was so sad that instead of just leaving him there, he stupidly implicated himself to try and help someone who thought the worst of him. The author did such an amazing job with the characters, the “ushers” in particular. They were a revolting bunch of pathetic cowards. She painted such an amazing picture of terrible people. Of course, when you see or hear the phrase, “boys will be boys”, you know you’re in for a traumatic ride. Honestly, no complaint on the entertainment of this book. Definitely a page turner. I found it strange though that the betrayal of Charlie and Jules is left kind of hanging there after Hannah’s connection reveal. And we don’t really get down to Charlie’s coldness to Hannah in their room, especially after we know what he’s done. I guess it’s more realistic, nothing solved in a day type of thing and absolutely a bigger fish to fry, but I was expecting some kind of reckoning with Jules. Another thing that was kind of left up in the air was Olivia’s past pregnancy. I can’t understand why the letter she wrote was so cryptic and didn’t start with this guy is a douche and here’s the positive pregnancy test to prove it! But then again, this is a very British story so she probably never would’ve written that. Loved the twists, kept me guessing and I loved it!
