I Believe in a Thing Called Love
by Maurene Goo
Desi a a perfect daughter and student. She’s going to be a doctor some day. She’s popular and she has a close knit group of friends. But she’s never had a boyfriend and she’s convinced it’s because of her awkwardness around boys.
She’s really close with her dad and she teases him about his love for K Dramas. They’re mini series, of many different themes, but the end result is always a happily ever after.
After Desi meets the new boy at school and develops an immediate crush...something awkward and embarrassing happens.
When she watches her dad’s K Drama with him later, she realizes that it an embarrassing moment might be a meet cute in disguise.
Her scientific brain starts to see a pattern on the shows. She decides that if she follows a certain series of steps laid out in the K Dramas that she might make her crush fall for her.
She doesn’t see any harm in it. She’s not pretending to be someone else. But certain steps on her list are definitely a bad idea...one leads her to cause a minor car accident...oops!
She legitimately doesn’t seem to see the harm in her plan. She doesn’t think she’s being deceptive, she sees herself approaching an unknown situation in a scientific way, a way that makes sense to her.
Desi is definitely over the top at times but she’s a likable character. I liked her dad a lot too. I thought this was a light, enjoyable story.
