I Will Never See the World Again by Yasemin Çongar, Ahmet Altan

5.0

Super powerful writing from a man who is imprisoned for life for being a journalist in a fascist regime. I borrowed the audiobook from my local library and relished every word. I hope that more secret pages may emerge from prison but I will not hold my breath.

Another thing that makes this writing more authentic is that Altan will not be interviewed on television. There will be no book junket. Altan will not be a keynote speaker at the New Yorker Festival. There is certainly the voice of someone who has a healthy ego in this book but what is written here is an important and timely message that resounds as a warning. History has repeated itself over and over again in Turkey.

If you need some inspiration about the importance of maintaining a free and open democracy, read the words of Ahmet Altan-- across a globe and translated from a different language there is a universal message of the importance and value of freedom.
