With the seemingly never-ending and yet often unsuccessful dating pool one can have access to with today’s dating apps, how nice would it be to know that you could forget about all that hard work to find the one meant for you just by giving a swab of your DNA? In John Marrs’ The One, it’s as simple as that. Throughout novel, we follow five individuals and how their lives change after they are each matched with their one true mate based off a specific gene compatibility. But not is all as it seems and, as truths come out and secrets unfold, the lives of these five individuals will forever be changed.

I devoured this book. Prior to reading The One, I had only read The Vacation and The Stranger in Her House by John Marrs and yet he is very quickly becoming one of my favorite suspense/thriller authors. His writing, the twists and turns, and the short chapters make his books so enjoyable to read. I loved this book so much and will definitely be thinking about it for days to come. I read A LOT of thriller/suspense novels and it is not often that a book causes me to audibly gasp and yet I found myself definitely expressing my shock and thoughts out loud multiple times throughout this book. I can confidently say this book was my favorite so far and I am very much looking forward to reading his remaining works.
