I loved the writing and atmosphere that Summers creates. The prose is so very captivating that I was drawn in from the very first page and didn't want to stop. Penelope was such an interesting villain. There were a few scenes with her that had me gasping. The romance didn’t really work for me. Didn’t feel any chemistry between Violet and Aleksander being together - friends with benefits maybe but nothing serious. Although there is an ending, it felt a little open ended. I thought there would be closure with Marianne's storyline.
