Carry on by Rainbow Rowell

3.0

I have not read any of Rowell's other works including Fangirl from which these characters are taken. By my understanding, Fangirl seems to be an indirect fanfiction of Harry Potter which would make Carry On a fanfiction of a fanfiction of Harry Potter and I treated it as such which was the only way for me to get through this.

Imagine a crack HP fic that merged Ron and Harry together to make the main character and then ship that with Draco who is also a vampire. Sprinkle in some Twilight aspects and references to other pop culture and you get my eyes rolling back in their sockets, threatening to pop themselves out. Nonetheless there were some parts that made me lol.

Didn't like the majority of the characters unfortunately and the one I could tolerate/like wasn't even part of the story until a good chunk into it. Yes, it was the vampire.

It also felt rushed overall (imagine HP starting from book 7 and everything must be explained in the first half of the book). I just didn't see the threat that was the "Humdrum" or didn't care for its severity. Overall plot? Nothing happens.

My hopes for a novel that resembled good McReid fanfiction from the game Vampyr has been sorely disappointed. I'll stick to AO3.

Overall, a solid meh.
