It’s a beautiful book full of love, longing, with wisdom and humour tempering the sad parts.

I am Elsa, also a different child, who was picked on at school, became a big sister for the first and only time at ‘almost eight’, had a granny I adored, although fortunately she lived until I was thirty-nine.

I loved this tale, I had the sense that all things were connected, I also sensed that the fairy tales were an allegory for important family stories.

I am also in aware of the translator, the “bessereissor” who took this tale which contains many words possibly made up in Swedish and made them assessable to us English readers. Henning Koch has done a remarkable job.
