It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

3.5

I found this a much slower read than I anticipated. I think part of it is the "cowboy dialect" used in writing. It fits the story and I think would make it a fun read aloud, but it just made it harder for me to get into and continue reading the book.
There is a pretty problematic depiction of the one "villain" of the story - he is half American Indian and half Black and is described in the book as a "half-breed" and is never given a name but "Breed" and his behavior is implicitly stated to be part of his character as a half-breed. I think it would be important, if reading this with children, to find some ways to talk about these kinds of prejudices.

I think horse lovers and fans of Black Beauty in particular would enjoy this book.
