The German Wife
by Kelly Rimmer
So good. Really makes you think about all of the complexities and nuances to every individual decision that everyone was making during the rise of the third reich. What is being brave, is bending with the wind actually breaking, what is the different between secret resistance and complicit compliance. Should you feel sympathetic a nazi that was “forced” to run a camp. What stories and memories of their involvement have they maybe sugar coated? But also what Lizzie’s brother was doing wasn’t right. Side note Lizzie is a Lezzi right? There was a lot of time line jumping going on and time passing but it was pretty easy to follow. Lizzie was infuriating at times but I also really understood and a supported her decisions too. Did Sofia and her family suffer enough or should they have had a higher price to pay. So many good conflicting questions and emotions through the book. Super captivating and great writing!!!
