Solitude Creek by Jeffery Deaver

4.0

Overall this book was everything you want in a thriller! There were numerous mysteries happening throughout the novel and the author did a good job weaving them throughout. There were many unexpected twists and turns. The book kept you at the edge of your seat throughout! I took away a star because the main character just wasn’t my favorite. It was like she could do no wrong! The author went into great detail about her parenting and how she’s this perfect mother that has all these guys wanting her. They even went into this one rant where the daughter, who’s ten, declared she wasn’t a feminist but an equalist. Made me want to gag! I was kinda routing for her to fail at some point and at one point you really thought she did but turns out she didn’t. She was so “perfect” that it was unbelievable and you couldn’t help but hate her a little bit. I was able to see past these annoyances though and focus on the mysteries! Semi-spoiler: I’ve read two other books by Jeffery Deaver and they were written after this novel. Many aspects, like normal occurrences turning deadly and video game violence, were used in the other books. This book read very similarly to the book “The Steel Kiss” (literally the same plot outline with different characters and slightly different crimes). This one read much better than “The Steel Kiss” So if you’re going to choice one I suggest this one! One other negative aspect of this book is the very end. It was extremely cheesy and cliche. Had nothing to do with the crimes though!
