Macbeth
by William Shakespeare
dark
mysterious
tense
fast-paced
I think I have found my favourite Shakespeare! I had never read Macbeth before and I had the best time reading it. It has witches, ghosts and murder, all kinds of darkness to it which is how I like my books!
Macbeth is a tragic hero who is desperate for power and it becomes his undoing. As for Lady Macbeth, she has to be one of the best characters I have ever read about in a play with her diva ways. With her planting ideas in her husband’s head to get him to carry out the dirty deeds at the start and then her remorse as the play moves on. She is such an interesting person to read about and I wish that she featured more in the play.
There are many great themes to this Shakespeare - power, corruption, guilt, ambition, gender roles and the supernatural side mixed in with these works so well. There are some witty parts to it too and clever wordplay.
Macbeth is certainly a masterpiece of a play and it is one I will revisit again.
