There's a moment in the novel during a flashback, where Diana talks about the fear of being left behind. This great envy and jealousy she feels at her lack of a safety net and the survival need to find your footing lest you get lost in all the doubts of the unknown and what might not be. And then even in the present, still not know what you truly want out of this life, thus living with such deep dissatisfaction despite all you've built and achieved. I wasn't expecting my current fears to be reflected back at me; it was quite visceral. Can't say it left me anymore hopeful, lol.
