Beastly Bones by William Ritter

5.0

Abigail Rook left her home and her family in search of adventure and found it. Now she investigates paranormal crime with a sherlock-holmesesque man named Jackaby. On this adventure, Jackaby and Miss Rook are sent to investigate the site of a dinosaur dig to hide their real investigation, the strange circumstances under which Mrs. Brisbee has died. They are distracted from their investigation when strange claw mark and small animals begin to go missing. Now it looks as though a thought to be extinct creature may have returned to ravage the land. Will they be able to solve the case in time?

I really like the Jackaby books. I love the sense of feeling like Watson. Sometimes when you are reading a mystery you can guess the ending by the clues that are laid out in the book, but since the answers to most of these mysteries are also themselves mysterious it is hard to guess at exactly what the author wants to reveal until the moment he chooses to reveal it, although the clues are always still there. This series is delightful and I cannot wait to read the next one.
