The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown
DID NOT FINISH

DNF at 62%

I really wanted to finish this book, I had hope for it.

The problem for me was the pacing that seemed all over the place, and the juvenile writing.

The characters felt very flat, like they had no personality and no depth. Cassie and Izzy could have easily been the same person, and I didn't care what happened to either of them

There was either too much detail, or not enough. The authors description of Paris became tedious, to the point I actually thought "can we get back to the plot now?" There was also parts with gory details that felt over the top for this kind of story. Things like stomping on people (or jumping? Can't recall exactly) and hearing their bones crush, and blood being vomited out of the body. Gore doesn't bother me, but that felt strange given how flat the rest of it had been.

It's like this was written by a 12 year old
