The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Library Edition by Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino

5.0

I thought the story of the book was really fun -- it did a great job referencing and building off of a lot of the stories and the lore introduced in the Legend of Korra TV show (including both more of the day-to-day life within Republic City and also the wide history of human interactions with the spirits in the time of Wan), and has really set up the series to have many plots that can span multiple books. I also loved the exploration of Korra and Asami's new relationship!! But sometimes I felt like the dialog was a little awkward or their dating was brought up at weird times in relation to the action that was also occurring in that scene. Maybe these scenes where romance and action were so closely tied were necessary to get to hear everyone's reaction of their relationship while not having to have meetings only focused on the relationship, thereby saving some page/panel space for more plot.
I also loved Irene Koh's art style! Her line work is so beautiful. Also her and Michael DiMartino's letters in the beginning were both so touching I almost cried. It doesn't seem like Koh will be sticking around to illustrate the next volume unfortunately, but hopefully I'll find some other story illustrated by her that I'm also interested in!
