Vampire Knight, Vol. 1 by Tomo Kimura, Matsuri Hino

Vampire Knight and I have an odd relationship. I first watched the anime back when I believe I was in middleschool or high school which was a round the time when it was being released. I remember the basic premise of the storyline but really the only thing that's stuck with me was the "ending," of the second season (which was weird and wasn't really an ending). However this was the first time I've read the manga. From what I remember this volume is almost exactly like the first few episodes of the anime.
I do think the artstyle is better suited for the manga rather than the anime. Yet there are times when reading when the art just looked a bit meh. Character designs are a bit lacking as well; a handful of the male characters look a like with Zero and Kaname being the exceptions. The story for this volume is good and sets out a nice framework for things to come. The pacing of the story is good as well. Some secrets are revealed early on while still leaving room for other things to come. I will say I wasn't too fond of Yuki as a female protagonist, at least not yet. Perhaps that changes in later volumes.
Overall a good start to the series. Not bad for what it is.
When it comes to the other 18 volumes, I'll probably just rate them & just give a review for the very last one, unless one of the volumes is just mind-blowing (in a positive or negative way).
