Play Along by Liz Tomforde
4.0

This whole time I loved Kai Rhodes, but I am in love with Isaiah Rhodes… Oh my gosh, this man is so incredible. Like swoon, I’m dead gone for 6 feet under, my overwhelming love for him has killed me. I wish I was Kennedy, OK I don’t wish I was Kennedy because her life was a living hell but I wish I was Kennedy post this book. I wish I was Kennedy happy, not whatever the fuck she was before Isaiah… I really don’t want that. Anyway let’s get into how I feel about this book.

So like, obviously, I’m obsessed with this series and I’m obsessed with Liz Tomforde. She has done it again, round of applause, please. There is just something so incredibly proactive about these books, every single book has a real world problem that needs attention, and that attention is called out in the perfect way. The issues are never portrayed so over the top that it is outrageous and it is never carelessly done. The sexism that was dealt with in this book was handled in a very realistic and sensitive way, I never felt like she was making fun of the topic, but really just shedding light on it. Also, Isaiah‘s anxiety was extremely realistic, I have said it before, and I will say it again one of my favorite things about her books is how much she focuses on the male characters. She knows how to turn her male characters into complex characters, I feel like so many romance novels, turn the males into this savior like figure and not another person. Our relationship is a two-way street, everybody has their weaknesses, but I feel like we always overlook the males. We have the same problem in real life, men are just as complex as women and we ignore their mental health so much. I will go off on an aggressively long tangent about male mental health, so I’m going to just stop right now.

This was my first arranged marriage, or marriage of convenience… I don’t really know what was going on here, but I low-key fucked with it not gonna lie. It was very Lorelei Gilmore and Luke Danes, but like college edition, if that makes any sense at all. I enjoy seeing Kai and Isaiah‘s relationship a little more and I really loved how Kennedy slowly became comfortable with everybody. Also loved the little glimpses that we got of the next book with Rio, they were a few and far between, but I’ve been collecting them throughout all of the books. Speaking of that book I’m gonna read it real quick and I’ll be back in like two days maybe
