The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant

5.0

This book was like catnip for me.

Look, I dunno if it was the Six of Crows comparison or the grimy underbelly of an alternate Paris or the re-imagined Les Mis retelling... but from page ONE, I couldn't put it down. Nina was EVERYTHING. Ettie was EVERYTHING. The dynamics of their relationship was EVERYTHING. The dauphin, Montparnasse, ST. JUSTE! I loved that there was clear romantic tension but not a romantic side plot. This book had a lot going on and if I were to be objective, it should have definitely been a 4 star read (some relationships were underdeveloped I felt and the passage of time felt jarring) but subjectively, I loved this story so much so 5 stars it was.

As a child, I was obsessed with the French Revolution and imagining an alternate universe to it was so fun. I can't wait for the next book.
