Birthday Girl
by Penelope Douglas
I stayed up late only to finish this book and it’s so worth it. It’s dark romance and might be considered taboo, but honestly there shouldn’t even be a question of who was better for her.
Forbidden love
Age gap
Slow burn
Jordan and Cole live together until they’re thrown out of their rented apartment after Cole throws a party and trashes the place. Jordan is only 19, but she’s working hard to save money while studying to become a landscape expert.
Cole, on the other hand, is drifting. He drinks, parties, forgets to pick up Jordan from her night shifts at the bar and all in all just doesn’t do anything with his life.
They move in with Pike, Cole’s father. They have an estranged relationship despite Pike being there for Cole whenever he needed him. He is mid 30s and he’s trying to be a good father, good boss to his employees and good member of the community. As a teen dad he learnt hard work is the only way for him.
Jordan cooks and cleans and shares the rest of the chores with Cole to earn their keep. But Cole becomes the worst possible boyfriend and by the time I reached the middle of the book I just wanted to key his car and slash his tires.
When Cole moves out, you can cut the sexual tension between Pike and Jordan with a knife. They have so much in common despite the age gap and they just click together. They want the same things in life and they’re willing to work hard to get there.
