The beauty of this book is the unreliable narration. Vanessa is attempting to justify her relationship to herself, classify it as love, but at the same time she is coming to terms with the abuse she endured. Initially, she paints their relationship as romantic, and nearly convinces the reader of this. It is so interesting to read as the web of lies she told herself slowly come down.
