Matilda by Roald Dahl

4.0

Sometimes children’s books are the ones who make us reflect the most. Matilda was a reread for me, because I needed a fun and light read to get me out of my reading slump. By reading this 8 years later, I had a completely different understanding of this story and what Roald Dahl actually intended us to get from it. Matilda is a child prodigy, an absolute genius whose parents do not care about, it’s a fun read for children because of the funny incidents and tricks Matilda is able to pull. On the other side, it talks about serious issues like suicide and child abuse and it shows us the importance of how a children are raised and the environment they’re in. Overall a good read, loved the relationship between Matilda and Miss Honey who were able to bond over their lack of love by their parent figures (and in my head-canon miss honey is a cottage core lesbian, no one can convince me otherwise).
