Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes

Did not finish book.
I have set this book aside until maybe next summer. Why is it that novels set in WWII are almost romantic while novels set in the Vietnam War are disturbing? Maybe it has something to do with the discretion of the Greatest Generation. Vietnam was the first televised war, the first war that was vehemently protested against often by our own parents, it was all the ugliness of the enemy and the ugliness of ourselves presented on the tube while we ate TV dinners. I will revisit this novel because 50 pages in I was being wooed by the author's style and endearing characters, but for now, I have to put it aside in order to prepare myself for the subject matter.
