The more I read the Bridgerton books, the more I hate the love interest men. Of course, having watched the show, I am biased, but Eloise deserves so much better.
Phillip had the potential to be a charming, academic, paternal man, but of course he just wanted tohide from his children and sleep with his wife . There was also potential for a deeper look into how detached the upper class of the time were from their children, but instead this was framed as just a Phillip fault.
There were quite a few enjoyable and/emotional scenes that were captivating (and I am looking forward to seeing them in the show) but the book became a bit of a slog after they married.
