The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

This was a really steady story and then you are slapped in the face with the last 15-20%. Brandon Sanderson did a wonderful job writing characters you genuinely care about, and despite basically needing to catch up on 1000 years of history, the world building made sense and didn’t feel dense.
I listened to this primarily on audiobook, and sometimes in fantasy stories it’s easy for me to get lost with so many characters. But they all are so distinct and have such personality, that never happened.
YES IF: you like stories with a rebel uprising, flawed but lovable characters, a magic system that contains limitations and character development/HEALING
NO IF: you need a fast paced story
