What if the pain never ends—and no one can tell you why?
At first, I thought Small Rain was a memoir—it felt that real. Garth Greenwell narrates the audiobook himself, making the raw emotion of this story hit even harder. The novel follows a man enduring excruciating stomach pain, trapped in a cycle of hospital visits during the pandemic, where medical staff race against time and patients are left in helpless uncertainty.
Through his experience and his relationship with his partner, Small Rain sheds light on the vulnerability of being a patient, the immense pressure on doctors, and the quiet strength it takes to live with the unknown. It’s raw, haunting, and at times, so real I had to step away. But that’s exactly why it’s worth reading.
