The Darkest Path by Jeff Hirsch is about a 16 year old named Cal. It takes place in 2026 during an American civil war where the country is split into the United States and the Glorius Path. Cal and his brother were captured by the Glorius Path when they were young and serve in their army until something happens that forces them to run away. My favorite character was Cal. I liked him because no matter what happened or the presure he faced, he always did what he believed in, even if it had life threatening consequences. This also made him feel real to me because I always try to make the right decisions in my life. The only thing I slightly disliked was the ending. It didn't make sense how James went back to the Glorius Path after saving his brother from it. Overall, I enjoyed the book and I think it would be interesting for people who like reading about war/military. It was cool to read about a possible future war that could happen in the United States.
