Unfortunately, I had to stop part way through, which is really too bad because the story itself is pretty interesting. The problem is a jarring misuse of verbs tenses- the consistent use of "I were" instead of "I was"; constant use of "I ain't" and "they ain't" by characters who otherwise use correct verb tenses; "he don't"instead of "he doesn't". The first 32% is worth about 2 stars because of the verb tense problem. After pushing through, it seems like after the first 35% the verb tense problem becomes less prominent. It's still there but it just doesn't seem to occur as often. Overall, I've corrected my rating to 3 stars.
