This book is interesting and enjoyable and well deserves the level of attention and praise it has received so far. The collection of subjects appear carefully chosen, with attention to diversity in age, eras and ethnicities.

I also loved the decision to pair each entry with art from a different woman artist - what a bold and clever decision. It has added to the richness of the book, with such a variety of styles and colours on display.

As an older reader, I feel that the bedtime-story format of the entries can lead to an unsatisfying read. Some of these women have had long and amazing lives and a single page just can't do it justice. The "once upon a time" framework and simplification can almost appear as bowdlerization. I would have appreciated a reading list that could point older readers to more in-depth information on the subjects.
