Main cast of characters are simply unlikeable, or maybe it's my 2024 framing of the characters. Louis, the main pov, is a pedantic, misogynist, old man in a young body, who looks everyone around him in contempt, or in patronizing ways.
The writing itself, the plot, moves very slow, and when action happens, it happens fast, then you have pages of reflection and interpretation of the events.
This is not a bashing of the book, not the author. I understand it's place in the history of science fiction, and that is a favorite for many. Just not for me.
