Of Mice and Men
by John Steinbeck
Of Mice and Men is a classic I’ve known in passing, but never read for myself - I was happy when my sister passed this onto me as it would be an easy classic to tick off my en classics list for this year.
George and Lennie have a dream that one day they will own land of their own, in the meantime they travel farm-to-farm, usually after Lennie has outstayed his welcome. Lennie is a big soft man whose temper issues boil over and George acts as his protector as he knows Lennie does nothing out of spite.
I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, my main critique would be for a book that’s so short - I founds some parts of it a little repetitive, but if I was getting my English Lit analysis on, maybe that was the point, George had justified Lennie’s actions for so long that his comments about Lennie had become a script.
4 out of 10 classics now ticked off for 2025.
