The Crash by Freida McFadden
tense
slow-paced

- Loveable characters? No

I kind of hated the main character from the very beginning.
Also, how is it that predictable? It's not always a bad thing to be a little cliche, but I feel like this author tends to be marketed as twisty thrillers. And there's just... never any twists?? Why do people say there are?? The storylines do escalate as they go but its always the exact same direction. The more I read of hers, the more I'm convinced she sketches book plots in about 10min and then just fills in the sequences to make a novel. It's definitely overrated. I think maybe it's because she writes super palatable and simple "scary" books so it's just not the same audience as other thrillers and horror. I'll probably keep reading her books because of that easiness.
The characters in this book are all pretty flat but Hank is the most unbelievable character. He acts like an NPC. And why are we supposed to like Jackson again? Please normalize giving side characters personality lol.
This particular story is pretty bland but I didn't dislike it. I'll also give McFadden credit for her writing style because it adapts very well to audiobook listening. It's very easy to follow along without losing focus, even when multitasking. Everything is very straightforward so it's a good style to listen to at work.
