I devoured this book ravenously. I had watched the TV series first and read one of Howey's other novels before so at times I got a bit turned around and confused, but I came out of this book thoroughly delighted by the story.
The show and boom are similar enough that you'll appreciate all the themes and main characters in a similar way. At the same time, there are plot and character differences which make it feel like a brand new story. The two are very close cousins that many people mistake for twins.
It's rare for such a fast-reading book to also feel so deeply nourishing for me. Nearly 600 pages went by quicker than 200 pages of another novel night.
This edition can't quite reach 5 stars for me because the "history of the darkeest yarns" section was a bit too flat and superfluous. Also, I recognize that though it's amazing, it's not quite quite perfect. Just that millimeter off from perfect.
