WTF. W. T. F. I started this book thinking to revisit childhood, enjoy a little bit of light-hearted period drama, but what do I get? Instead, endless moralizing about women's proper place in society. I don't consider myself a raging feminist, but being slapped in the face with 19th-century conservative Christian viewpoints on every goddamn page drove me mad. Even Jo's rebellious character is treated as unattractive & inappropriate until she becomes more womanly (not to mention conventionally prettier). It's not even redeemed by skillful writing or cleverness. Bah.
