the second book in the shadow and bone trilogy is another one i really enjoyed, the world is genuinely one of my favourites; i like the way its developed, the way leigh bardugo writes, and the complexity and layers of it all.

i forgot just how much i liked nikolai in this story, and how he brought so much into it, he is an iconic presence and i am excited to read more about him later on in this trilogy, and the grishaverse itself. the characters stood out to me, again, and i particularly liked the way alina was written in this one, i think it is quite realistic for her to struggle with her very recently found powers- and everything that ties her to the darkling even if she doesnโ€™t want it to. also, each of the side characters were so interesting too.

overall, it was a strong second book in the trilogy, the first book was impossible to put down for me, but regardless of the fact i didnโ€™t have that with this one i still enjoyed it thoroughly.
