To Kill a Mockingbird: 50th Anniversary Edition by Harper Lee

3.0

This book is undoubtedly a classic. It succinctly tells a story that highlights racism in small town America during its time and the inability of black people to get a fair trial with such a corrupt jury. We follow the story through the eyes of a young child which is an interesting perspective and makes thinks a lot plainer. This isn't a complex read and is easy to follow.

What it does it does well and I understand why others hold this book in such high regard. It just wasn't the perfect read for me at this time and that's okay. I can't quite put my finger on what didn't work. I think my mood would have just preferred another genre, something more fantasy based and that isn't this book's fault. But I can't rate it higher than 3 stars due to my overall lack of enjoyment of it.
