The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver

5.0

This was my first Kingsolver novel and I was absolutely CAPTIVATED throughout. Not only is the Congo’s recent history in striving for genuine sovereignty and independence laced into the Price family’s story in a way that makes it digestible, but Kingsolver also illustrates elaborately dynamic characters and settings that relate back to this history. There were so many perspectives and different means of interpreting various events and characters, that it was easy to get lost, not only into the novel, but in one’s own mind. Loved loved LOVED!

Also I watched the movie “Lumumba” about 1/3 of the way into this reading and I highly recommend for gaining some useful background knowledge on the Congo’s fight for independence.
